Caddyshack

I don't feel any need to analyze this theoretically or historically or filmically at all. This is simply one of the funniest movies ever made. It would be stupid and wasteful to spend energy on the direction, photography, and general cinema of Caddyshack. It is exempt of comparison, impervious to standard critique, and unrelated to most of film history. It is simply funny as crap.

I wish I hadn't put this movie in the list, Airplane too, because I don't have anything to say about it. It's a classic, a legend, a monster of comedy. A monster of comedy? What's a monster of comedy? I don't know. Caddyshack is a funny movie that is beyond criticism because it tries to be nothing more than a funny movie. Maybe when I write the Airplane review I'll just refer back to this one. It's funny. So what? Do I know why it's funny? No I don't. How do I know it's funny then? I don't know. But I do.

I will say that Bill Murray is classic Bill Murray, Chevy Chase is classic Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield is classic Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight is classic Ted Knight, and "Ratfart" has higher meaning now. Especially when the priest is in the bar after he was shocked... remember that?

"Did somebody step on a duck?" "Looks good on you though" "Billy Billy Billy Billy" "It's in the hole!" "that's a peach, hon" "It's a Cinderella Story" "Do you want to tie me up with your ties, Ty?" "Ratfart" "Don't worry about this... it's doctor's orders."

If you don't like Caddyshack, I don't like you.
